Title Our Authors

Pandemic in Florida

By Lee Nelson

You wouldn't know there is one

on the Gulf

or through The Everglades

or here in Key West

southernmost us

with Hemingway

and the painted marker

that reminds me of Little Boy

in this gorgeous greedy paradise

no matter how much my legit

happiness insists it not

as we drink and smile in the sun

naturally as ever

laughing

walking

swimming

eating

drinking

stumbling

naturally as we must

and unnaturally not talk about it

as we must have it

as it kills

and killed

and killed

and kills

and killed two equally awesome

vacations

before this one

(yes we're presently selfish assholes)

so hold my beer

as I empty my gallons

into easily seven men's piss

in this filthy as they come

toilet

and oh wait

my sandal to the handle

flushes the inhumanity down

just fine

(imagine that)

and my wife wants to know

where her pisser is

and god knows where

but the shore

sure looks safer to me.

Easily a million of us

will be dead

but I ask you

please tell me

whatever else

were we

ever

going to do?
